Background and Context to AIFYE
AIFYE will be established in large measure to give an independent voice to young entrepreneurs from all echelons of society and develop regions alike in their quest to turn back what were then perceived as oppressive and poverty causing socio-economic policies of Entrepreneurship through collective schemes.
The organisation’s central role is therefore to set a formal stage on which youth across all parts of Uganda in partnership with their external partners will have a consistent and meaningful dialogue to come up with basic entrepreneurial practices especially in a more professional and consultative way on the impact of various economic policies and practices in Uganda.
As one of the few processes which allows for direct contact between grass-root implementers and national- global level decision makers the principle focus of the Organisation is to advocate for openness, accountability, in policy formulation and stakeholder participation and ownership in the implementation of those policies and programmes.
Over the years, this will make the AIFYE become a leading player in fighting the worst effects of economic structural adjustment programmes, initiating the Government move towards the use of popular participation as a key working methodology in policy design and implementation, as well as propose and help shape the new initiatives on capacity building for young entrepreneurs, and facilitate regional input to debates over the financial replenishment of the Government’s concession base lending facility through the ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and other Development NGO’s.
Now the AIFYE will predominantly concentrate its focus on contributions to the national struggle to liquidate underdevelopment and alleviate poverty in the vast majority young people by securing loans for investing in business and educating them on loan armotisation schemes. This effort will rest mainly on increasing National attention on the need to focus more intensely on participatory poverty reduction, and inclusive social development through the implementation of pro-poor policies by encouraging our members to acquire loans and avoid the previous generated biases.
Key strategies adopted in this endeavor shall be research, monitoring (with full engagement at national and regional levels), and limited collaborative advocacy at global level. In the early periods of its existence the AIFYE will primarily promote coalition of development, with common and cross cutting issues on a variety of themes, but as time elapses and a relationship with the several organisations will become more clear and solidified, changes to the structure and functioning of the AIFYE shall become more necessary.
